Leafield Environmental has been working closely with universities and colleges for many years, designing and manufacturing effective and durable recycling bins to increase their recycling rates.
Leafield’s best-selling Meridian recycling bin was designed for the University of Greenwich in 2012. The innovative design was the first of its kind to collect multiple waste streams at source in one single and stylish bin. The interchangeable lid configuration allows facility managers to change their recycling schemes. The standard black Meridian is made from up to 100% recycled plastic (subject to availability). The lids and graphics are WRAP compliant colour coded, for clear communication to reduce contamination. The Meridian recycling bin is available in two sizes: 110-litre and 87-litre with single, double or triple lid configurations. A free A3 signage kit is available. Bespoke colours and personalisation of labels are available upon request.
Leafield can also offer the Meridian 110-litre bin as a bagless unit with internal liners, saving thousands of bin bags being used. Click here for more information.
2. Leafield EnviroStack Recycling Bin
Leafield’s EnviroStack recycling bin was developed in 2014 for Bath Spa University. It was Leafield’s first stackable recycling bin that had a compact design to fit into halls of residence kitchens, where space was limited but recycling multiple waste items was a priority. Following its success, the EnviroStack recycling bin is now available in two different sizes (52-litre and 32-litre) which can both be stacked together. The standard black EnviroStack recycling bin is made from up to 100% recycled plastic (subject to availability). The lids and graphics are WRAP compliant colour coded, for clear communication to reduce contamination.
3. Leafield Envirobank Recycling Bin
Leafield’s Envirobank recycling bin is a popular choice for universities and colleges. It is available in four different sizes: 140-litre unit, 180-litre unit, 240-litre unit and 310-litre unit. The high-volume Envirobank recycling bins were designed to be used singly or in multiples for collection of recyclables in highly populated areas. The Envirobank 140-litre bin was the leading recycling product when public recycling was in its early stages and is still popular today for ‘recycling on the go’ schemes. The new Envirobank 310-litre bin was designed for Cardiff University in 2021 for external environments. The standard black Envirobank bin is made from up to 100% recycled plastic (subject to availability). The lids and graphics are WRAP compliant colour coded, for clear communication to reduce contamination.
4. Leafield Midi Recycling Bin
Leafield’s Midi recycling bin has an 82-litre capacity and is suitable for medium volume recycling schemes for internal office environments. The Midi recycling bins were introduced at Cardiff University in 2021, as well as Bangor University for academic and administration buildings. The standard black Midi recycling bin is made from up to 100% recycled plastic (subject to availability). The lids and graphics are WRAP compliant colour coded, for clear communication to reduce contamination.
5. Leafield EnviroStep Recycling Bin
Leafield’s EnviroStep recycling bin features a pedal to avoid the need of hand contact when disposing waste. It was introduced at Bath Spa University in 2014. Designed for environments where hygiene is of high importance such as washrooms, kitchens or food halls. It features mould-in graphic labels, to avoid sticky edges where bacteria can build up. The front moulded handle and non-marking wheels makes it easy to manoeuvre. Available as a single waste collection or triple, collecting multiple waste streams.
Closed Loop Recycling Scheme Success…
Leafield is proud to offer a ‘Closed Loop Recycling Scheme’ and recently reclaimed 900 old plastic bins from Bangor University and turned them into new plastic recycling bins. Leafield’s scheme is a major contribution in supporting the Government’s target for the UK to be net zero carbon by 2050. The unique benefit of this scheme is that the new recycling bins are made from up to 100% recycled plastics, which puts the circular economy at the core of any business.
